2023 Miami Shores Village Council Election

Miami Shores holds municipal elections every two years, in odd numbered years in April. The 2023 municipal election will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the Community Center from 7am-7pm. Councilmembers are elected on a non-partisan basis. Candidates receiving first and second highest number of votes shall serve a term of four years; candidate receiving the third highest number of votes shall serve a term of two years. The Miami Shores Village Clerk is the local Supervisor of Elections for all municipal elections.

Candidate Packets will be ready as of November 10, 2022 (upon scheduling an in person or Zoom meeting with the Village Clerk.) 





A candidate is defined in Fla. Stat. §97.021(6) as any person to whom any one or more of the following applies:

  • Any person who receives contributions or makes expenditures, or gives his or her consent for any other person to receive contributions or make expenditures, with a view to bringing about his or her nomination or election to, or retention in, public office.


  • Any person who appoints a treasurer and designates a primary depository.


  • Any person who files qualification papers and subscribes to a candidate's oath as required by law.

Any person who has been a resident of Miami Shores Village for six (6) months and who has qualified as an elector of this state, shall be a qualified elector of Miami Shores Village. Any qualified elector of the village shall be nominated for the council by petition.

A candidate can collect signatures as soon as a completed Form DS-DE 9, Appointment of Campaign Treasurer and Designation of Campaign Depository, is filed with the filing officer (municipal clerk). Petitions signed prior to the date Form DS-DE 9 is filed with the filing officer are not valid.

Candidacy may be announced at any time. However, before accepting ANY contribution, collecting petition signatures, or making ANY expenditure:


  1. Complete the “Appointment of Campaign Treasurer” and “Designation of Campaign Depository” form (DS-DE 9) and file with my office. I will then provide you with a copy for you to open your campaign account.  You may serve as your own campaign treasurer or deputy treasurer.


  1. You may not accept any campaign contributions nor make any campaign expenditures without having filed the DS-DE 9 form and opened your campaign account.  In addition, you may not obtain any petition signatures prior to filing the DSDE9 form and opening your campaign bank account.  This is important, as any signatures obtained prior to opening your account will not be counted towards your required 50 signatures. 

Candidates shall file qualification papers with the Village Clerk beginning Monday, February 1, 2021 at 8:30 AM through Friday, February 26, 2021 at 5:00 PM.

The Miami Shores Village Council Election will be held on April 11, 2023. The deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot is 5 p.m. on the tenth day before the election. Miami- Dade Election Department must receive the vote by mail ballot request by 5 p.m., a postmarked vote-by-mail ballot request is not valid.
