WHEN AND HOW DO I ANNOUNCE MY CANDIDACY?
Candidacy may be announced at any time. However, before accepting ANY contribution, or making ANY expenditure:
  1. Complete the “Appointment of Campaign Treasurer” and “Designation of Campaign Depository” form (DS-DE 9) and file with the Village Clerk who will then provide you with a copy for you to open your campaign account. You may serve as your own campaign treasurer or deputy treasurer.
  2. You may not accept any campaign contributions nor make any campaign expenditures without having filed the DS-DE 9 form and opened your campaign account.  In addition, you may not obtain any petition signatures prior to opening your campaign bank account.  This is important as any signatures obtained prior to opening your account will not be counted towards your required 50 signatures.
  3. A formal campaign account must be opened at a bank authorized to do business in Florida.
  4. Prior to obtaining any signatures on the “Petition”, complete the top portion of each form. Other individuals may assist you in circulating the Petition, as long as they complete and sign the bottom of each Petition as indicated.  Petitions must be signed in ink, with the signer printing their name, full address, date of birth or voter registration number, as well as providing their signature and date signed. Fifty (50) signatures of QUALIFIED MIAMI SHORES ELECTORS are required to become a candidate for the Village Council election.  Because the Village’s Charter states that “… no elector shall sign more than three (3) such petitions, and should an elector do so, his signature shall be voided except as to the petition first filed. . “,please ensure that individuals signing the petition have not previously signed three (3) other candidate’s petitions.
