2025 Miami Shores Village Council Election
Miami Shores holds municipal elections every two years, in odd numbered years in April. The 2025 municipal election will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at the Community Center from 7am-7pm. Council-members are elected on a non-partisan basis. Candidates receiving first and second highest number of votes shall serve a term of four years; candidate receiving the third highest number of votes shall serve a term of two years. The Miami Shores Village Clerk is the local Supervisor of Elections for all municipal elections.
HOW TO RUN FOR MUNICIPAL OFFICE:
Steps to Start Your Campaign
1. **Appoint a Campaign Treasurer**
- You can serve as your own campaign treasurer or appoint someone else for the role.
2. **Complete the Form DS-DE 9**
- Fill out the “Appointment of Campaign Treasurer and Designation of Campaign Depository” form. Submit the original form to the Village Clerk’s Office, located at 10050 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami Shores, Florida 33138.
3. **Open a Campaign Bank Account**
- Open a dedicated campaign account at a bank authorized to operate in Florida. This account must be separate from any personal or business accounts, and the bank should provide checks and deposit slips clearly labeled as a campaign account.
4. **Submit the DS-DE 84 “Statement of Candidate” Form**
- File this form with the Village Clerk within ten days of submitting the DS-DE 9 form.
After submitting the Statement of Candidate form, you are officially allowed to collect and spend funds for your campaign.
5. ** Collect Petition Signatures**
-Once you submit the DS-DE-9 form to the Village Clerk in person, the Village Clerk will provide you with the petition signature form. You may begin gathering at least fifty (50) petition signatures to qualify for municipal office.
Be aware that any signatures collected prior to filing the DS-DE-9 form will be considered invalid.
